This is a nationwide program in Canada and is applicable across all provinces and territories.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Incorporation and Size: The business must be an incorporated, profit-oriented small or medium-sized business in Canada.
- Employee Count: The company should have 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees.
- Innovation Focus: Commitment to the development and commercialization of innovative, technology-driven new or improved products, services, or processes.
- Financial Viability: The ability to pursue growth and profit through strategic R&D investments.
Registration Procedure: Applicants must register with NRC IRAP, providing basic company information.
Eligible Expenses: These include salaries and wages (60%-80% coverage) and a portion of contractor fees.
Cost Sharing and Matching Funds: Typically, businesses must provide a part of the project’s funding.
Some Documentation Required: Business Plan OR Pitch Deck, Detailed Project Proposal, Historical Financial Statements (to be provided by your bookkeeper/accountant), Resumes or biographies of key team members, Project Budget outlining how the funds will be utilized, Market Analysis, Commercialization Plan, Technology/Project Overview, Economic Impact Assessment, Proof of Incorporation, Information on Prior Research and Development Activities

The Alberta Innovates Micro Voucher Program is designed to support early-stage technology and knowledge-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Alberta
The program provides up to $10,000 in funding.
Eligibility Criteria: To apply for the grant, your SME must be based in Alberta, focused on technology or knowledge-based innovation, financially stable, and have the potential to grow and commercialize your technology. Your project should be in the early stages of product development and align with the program's aim to support product research and development, design and engineering, prototype development, product testing and refinement, and similar activities. The grant can be used for eligible expenses such as product development, testing, and market assessment.
Application Process: Applicants must first assess whether they meet the program's eligibility criteria. If eligible, companies must submit a detailed proposal through the Alberta Innovates application portal.
Eligible Expenses: Product Research and Development; Design, Engineering, and Prototype Development; Product Testing and Refinement; Patent Development; Market Assessment; Business/Marketing Strategies; Other Technology Development Activities
